About Tuomas

I have transcribed orchestral works for the organ, as the sound of the organ is often near to that of an orchestra, and also vice versa. When making transcriptions, I take the original version into account but my goal is to find a suitable fresh sound for the composition concerned. I have also transcribed piano works for the organ. When doing so, I have discovered new dimensions in these piano works; that is because when transcribing a piano work for the organ, I must look at that from a perspective of organ (for instance, Bird as Prophet by Robert Schumann).

Curriculum vitae

Doctor of music, Tuomas Pyrhönen is nowadays among the most active Finnish concert organists. He has studied at the Sibelius-Academy in Helsinki obtaining his bachelor of church music exam in 1994 and A-exam (organ diploma) in 1996, studying organ as professor Kari Jussila's student. Immediately after that he studied at the Stuttgart Hochschule fûr Musik und Darstellende Kunst with professor Ludger Lohmann achieving his "Final artistic exam" there in summer 1998.
